Visual Device Management

How do I change a phone’s settings using Visual Device Management?

To configure a line key, do the following:

  1. Select one of the keys labelled with “L”.
  2. In the “Configuration” column, choose “Speed Dial” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter the phone number or extension you want to associate with this line key.
  4. Enter the name or label you want to associate with this line. This label will show up on the IP phone’s touchscreen after you save your changes.

Each new line key you configure will be added to the phone in sequential order. So if line keys 1-4 are set up and you then set up line key 6, the phone will automatically reassign this setting to line key 5.

To configure a soft key, do the following:
  1. Select one of the keys labelled with “S”.
  2. In the “Configuration” column, choose “Speed Dial” or “Function” from the drop-down menu.
    • If you choose “Speed Dial”, follow the same instructions as for line keys, above.
    • If you choose “Function”, go to step 3.
  3. In the “Assigned To” column, choose the function you want to set from the drop-down menu.

To change the ringtone for a user’s IP phone, go to the main Visual Device Management screen for the user and select the ringtone from the drop-down menu in the “Ringer” column.

Once you’ve made your changes, press the “Update Device” button at the top right corner of the screen. The phone’s settings will be updated automatically unless the phone is already in the middle of a call; in that situation, the update will be applied after the call is over. In certain situations, updates may cause a phone to restart.
