Remote control not working

These steps apply to the Rogers remote you received from us with your digital TV box. If it says Rogers on it, we can help. For problems with other remotes, please check with the manufacturer.

Symptom

  • Digital TV box doesn’t respond to the remote control (on/off, volume, channels, etc.).

Cause

  • Physical problem with the remote or environment
  • Low Battery

Resolution

  • Press the CBL (Cable) button at the top of the remote.
  • Make sure that nothing is blocking the space between the remote and the digital TV box.
  • When you press a button, do the lights at the top of the remote control flash? If not, replace the batteries.
  • Try changing channels or increasing/decreasing the volume using the buttons on the front of the digital TV box. If this works, try the remote control again.
  • If your problem continues, try reprogramming your Rogers remote.

To program the 5-button Rogers remote to control the volume on your TV:
  • Press and hold the Setup button until one of the mode buttons (AUX, DVD, TV or CBL) flashes twice. Release the Setup button.
  • Enter 9-9-3.
  • Press and release the button for the mode (AUX, DVD, TV or CBL) of the device that you want your Rogers remote to control the volume for.

To program the 3- or 4-button Rogers remote to control the volume on your TV:
  • Cover the infrared part on the front of the remote with your hand.
  • Press and hold the CBL button and the Select button until the mode buttons or LED blink twice.
  • While covering the front of the remote, press 9-9-3. The CBL button or LED will blink twice.
  • Now press the TV button. The CBL button or LED will blink twice to confirm when the process is complete.
  • Uncover the front of the remote and point it towards your TV. Check that your changes were accepted by testing the volume controls on the remote.
  • If you see the digital TV box volume bar instead of your TV volume bar, your changes weren’t successful. Repeat these instructions.
