1. What is an eSIM?
eSIM stands for embedded SIM. It allows you to connect to your carrier's network without a physical SIM card. An eSIM is configured entirely through software instead of a physical SIM card.
2. What types of eSIMs does Rogers offer?
Rogers offers three types of eSIMs: voucher, digital, and seamless. While all eSIMs provide the same features and functionalities, they differ in how they are delivered:
- Voucher eSIM: A physical card with a QR code.
- Digital eSIM: A QR code sent via email.
- Seamless eSIM: Automatically delivered to your phone without requiring a QR code scan.
For both the voucher and digital options, you will need to scan the QR code with your device. Choose the type that best suits your needs.
3. Why should I choose an eSIM?
All three types of eSIMs (voucher, digital, and seamless) provide connectivity. However, an eSIM offers several advantages over a traditional physical SIM. These advantages include ease of use, remote activation, and the ability to switch between mobile lines. Additionally, eSIMs eliminate the need for a physical SIM card. Some devices with eSIM capabilities can even support more than one phone number.
4. Is my device eSIM compatible?
An eSIM can only be activated on eligible devices, reach out to your carrier or device manufacturer’s customer service representative for more information.
5. How to generate a digital eSIM?
There are different ways to generate a digital eSIM:
- By visiting a Rogers Store.
- By self-serve portal. You can request a digital eSIM swap and access the QR code via email or place an order for a new line.
- By calling us and placing an order with a Business Care Agent
6. How to setup a Seamless eSIM on a brand-new Rogers device?
- Certain Rogers devices released after May 29, 2024, will support automatic eSIM installation during device setup via an on device notification (seamless eSIM).
- Follow these steps to complete your eSIM set-up:
- Turn on your device for the first time and complete the initial setup.
- Need help getting started? Find your device in our device guides and get easy-to-follow steps for topics like turning on and off your device or transferring data from an old device to the new one.
- You’ll need to be connected to WiFi during set-up to activate your eSIM. Note: An error can occur due to an unstable WiFi connection
- After setup, wait for the notification to set up your Rogers eSIM.
- Follow the prompts on your device.
- Go into your settings and make sure the new eSIM has been turned on for your device.
That’s it! Now that you have your eSIM activated on your device, you can complete a number transfer if you’re bringing your phone number from another provider to Rogers. Follow these steps for more help.
7. Didn’t get a notification to setup your eSIM?
If you didn’t receive a notification to set up your eSIM and require one on a compatible device, refer to question 5, "How to Generate a Digital eSIM," for instructions on how to proceed.
8. I’ve requested a Digital eSIM, how do I get the QR code?
- Ordered through self-serve?
Once you have the device (or activation confirmation if you are using your own device): Enterprise Customers: Log back into your self-serve portal, access the ordering section and select the ‘Get QR Code’ icon. There you will be able to request the QR code for the digital eSIM. Small Business Customer: Contact us with your order number and we will send you the QR code for the digital eSIM - Ordered through a Business Care Agent?
Once you have the device (or activation confirmation if you are using your own device) please contact us to request the QR code for the digital eSIM. Please Note: If you have ordered a hardware upgrade or would like to change to a digital eSIM on an existing device, you can also log on to your self-serve portal and access the ‘Change SIM card’ option from the self-serve menu. There you will be able to request the QR code for the digital eSIM.
9. How many numbers can work on the same device?
The number of phone numbers that can work on the same device depends on the device's capabilities. Some devices with eSIM capabilities can support more than one phone number. For example, the latest iPhones can support one physical SIM and one eSIM, allowing for two phone numbers on the same device.
10. How do I know if my device is eSIM compatible?
You can check if your device is eSIM compatible by checking the device specifications or by contacting the manufacturer or your carrier. Many newer smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches support eSIM technology.
11. Can I use an eSIM while traveling internationally?
Yes, you can use an eSIM while traveling internationally. However, it is important to check your plan for international roaming charges and availability of eSIM services in the country you are visiting.
12. How do I switch between eSIMs on my device?
If your device supports multiple eSIMs, you can switch between them by going to the device settings and selecting the eSIM you want to use. The exact steps may vary depending on the device and operating system.
13: Can I use both an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?
Yes, some devices support the use of both an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time. This allows you to have two active phone numbers on the same device. Check your device specifications for more details.
14: How do I transfer my eSIM to a new device?
To transfer an eSIM, please use the SIM swap feature in your Business Self-Serve portal.
15: What is eSIM Quick Transfer on iPhone? 
This feature allows users to transfer an eSIM or convert a physical SIM to an eSIM and transfer it from their old iPhone to a new one without using the SIM swap feature in the Business Self-Serve portal. Note: Both the old and new iPhone must have iOS 18 or later installed to use this feature. 
16: How do I transfer a physical SIM or eSIM from my previous iPhone to an eSIM on my new iPhone using eSIM Quick Transfer? 
Ensure that your old and new iPhone are next to each other, and both updated to iOS 18 or above. While you're setting up your new iPhone, if you're asked to transfer your SIM, follow the onscreen instructions to transfer your physical SIM or eSIM. If you need to transfer more than one SIM to your new iPhone, transfer your additional SIMs following the steps below.
- On your new iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. 
- Choose a cellular plan to transfer from another iPhone. If you don't see a list of numbers, tap Transfer From Another iPhone. This requires both devices to have the latest iOS installed. 
- Check for instructions on your previous iPhone to confirm the transfer. To confirm, tap Transfer or, if asked for a verification code, enter the code that's displayed on your new iPhone. 
- Wait for the cellular plan to activate on your new iPhone. Your previous SIM is deactivated when the cellular plan on your new iPhone activates.
