What is Ignite Home Phone?

Ignite Home Phone is a phone service that lets you stay connected using one convenient landline number for the whole family. It runs on our Ignite Internet™ service through the Ignite WiFi Gateway modem connection, over our dedicated cable network. To activate the service, you must add Ignite Home Phone to an Ignite TV + Internet bundle.

Good to know:

  • You can keep your existing home phone number.
  • You can self-install just by plugging a home phone or cordless phone base unit directly into the back of the Gateway modem. If you prefer to use the phone wall jacks in your home instead, simply contact us to book a professional installation to confirm your home wiring and complete the setup.
  • Ignite Home Phone is compatible with TTY assistive devices for hearing or speech impairment or both, building intercoms, and fax machines.
  • Rogers technicians can also connect Ignite Home Phone to many medical alert and home security systems but compatibility may vary depending on different models and manufacturers.
  • While Ignite Home Phone does support access to 911 (and E-911 where supported), operator services and directory assistance, there is no battery back-up built-in. If battery back-up is needed Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) options are available for purchase from most electronics retailers.

How is the call quality?

Call quality is so important to our customers and we do everything we can to provide a great call experience. This service is delivered over our own dedicated cable network, which we manage and monitor ourselves.

Do I need a professional installation for Ignite Home Phone or to use my phone wall jacks?

Ignite Home Phone is not automatically connected to the phone wall jacks around your home.

You can easily self-install your Ignite Home Phone service by plugging your home phone or cordless phone base unit directly into the back of the Ignite WiFi Gateway modem. However, if you prefer to use your phone wall jacks instead, just contact us to book a professional installation. The technician will test the phone cabling inside your home and complete the setup.

A professional installation is also required if you want to connect your Ignite Home Phone service to any of the following:

  • a building intercom system
  • centrally monitored alarm service or panel
  • medical alert service

Ignite Home Phone compatibility may vary for different medical and security system models and manufacturers. Once your appointment is booked, visit this page to prepare for your professional installation.

How do I set up my Ignite Home Phone and voicemail?

  1. Make sure your Ignite Internet is set up first.
  2. Plug your home phone or cordless phone base unit into the top left phone port on the back of your internet gateway. Visit this page for a how-to video.
  3. If using a cordless phone base unit, complete any additional setup as instructed by the manufacturer.
  4. Check for a dial tone and if not available, simply unplug your Gateway power cord for 10 seconds, then plug back in and wait for the light to turn solid white.
  5. Once you hear a dial tone, you’re ready to dial *98 on your home phone to set up your voicemail. Enter the last four digits of your home phone number as your temporary password and follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Will Ignite Home Phone work during a power outage/network disconnection?

No. As with Ignite Internet and TV, Ignite Home Phone service will not be available during a disruption and you will not be able to make any calls, including 911 calls.

If power outages are a concern, you may wish to consider an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) device, which is widely available from electronic retailers and alarm or medical alert service providers. If you do not have a corded home phone, a UPS device can also be used to power a cordless phone system or charge cell phones during a power outage.

Note: Cordless phones cannot work in the event of a power outage. We recommend that you keep at least one corded phone in your home in case of a power outage.

How can I temporarily disconnect my Ignite Home Phone while I’m away for an extended period?

I do not want my phone to ring differently on long distance calls. Can this be disabled?
