Long Distance, Local Calling Areas & Call Forwarding
Local and long distance calls are different mainly because of where the caller and the person receiving the call are. For landline phones, only outgoing calls can incur long distance charges. However, for mobile devices, long distance charges may apply to both incoming and outgoing calls. This depends on where the caller is and where the recipient is at the time of the call. Most of our plans include Canada-wide calling.

Incoming and outgoing calls
Incoming calls: Calls received within your local calling area are considered local. If you receive calls outside this area, they're billed as long distance. Plans with Canada-wide minutes allow receiving calls from any Canadian number anywhere in Canada without long distance charges.
Outgoing calls: Calls are classified based on the location they're made. If the dialled number is local to the caller’s current location, the call is local. Otherwise, it's treated as a long distance call.
Understanding Local Calling Areas
Most of our plans include unlimited Canada-wide calling, however some legacy plans may only have local calling. Local calling areas are determined based on the caller's location, the mobile number and the dialled number. These factors are crucial in defining whether a call is local or long distance.
Call forwarding
Call forwarding involves redirecting incoming calls to another number. Most of our plans include Canada-wide calling which applied to call forwarding as well, however, for plans with local calling, charges for forwarded calls depend on whether the forwarded number is within the caller's local calling area. The location of the mobile device during call forwarding doesn't affect long distance charges.
Note: Call forwarding, also known as Call Transfer, may incur roaming and/or airtime charges in addition to long distance charges.
