What is a blacklist?

A blacklist is a publicly available, real-time list of known malicious Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Servers can instantly check the list to see if incoming requests should be approved or denied, based on previously bad behaviour by individual IPs.

How might I be affected by IP blacklists?

Your IP address could be added to a blacklist, either intentionally or through error. Usually, IPs get blacklisted from being associated with hacker groups, or from being linked to malicious behaviour in the past. It’s extremely difficult to get an IP address removed from a blacklist.

What happens if my IP address is blacklisted?

If your IP address is blacklisted, you won’t be able to access any website or server that checks that blacklist.

What do I do if my IP addresses is blacklisted?

First, find out the reason for the blacklist by going to the site where it is listed and determine why you were added.

To get your IP address removed from the blacklist, you’ll have to contact the blacklist’s administrator and satisfy the criteria for removal.
