What's Storm-Ready WiFi?

Rogers Xfinity Storm-Ready WiFi is Canada’s first home internet backup solution. It provides wireless and up to 4 hours of battery backup to keep you connected during power outages or network interruptions.

Storm-Ready WiFi also works as a WiFi extender to improve coverage. It's also our strongest WiFi Boost Pod.

What do I need to get Storm-Ready WiFi?

You need Rogers Xfinity Internet with a Gen 2 or higher Gateway, plus access to the Rogers LTE cellular network for backup connectivity. Select 4G LTE on the cellular network coverage map to see our coverage area. To optimize backup cellular connectivity, install your Storm-Ready WiFi device by a window and at least 5 feet from the Rogers Xfinity Gateway (up to 30 feet away).

No, a Rogers mobile phone service isn't required for Storm-Ready WiFi.

How does the cellular and power backup work?

When the power goes out or there’s a network interruption, the Storm-Ready WiFi device automatically switches to the Rogers LTE cellular network for backup connectivity to keep your home online. During backup connectivity, no cellular data overage charges apply and internet speeds support common online activities including messaging, video and music streaming, internet browsing, gaming and video calling. (Speeds up to 30 Mbps downloads and 7 Mbps uploads for first 500 GB, then up to 10 Mbps downloads and 2 Mbps uploads thereafter. When streaming, download speeds of up to 3 Mbps, good for videos up to 720p HD).

Remember that the rechargeable battery backup for your Storm-Ready WiFi device offers up to 4 hours of power. This will keep you connected to devices like laptops, tablets and phones. It doesn't power electrical outlets throughout the home for other devices during a power outage. Rogers Voice home phone service is also not supported during backup connectivity.

Once the outage is resolved, Storm-Ready WiFi will automatically switch your home WiFi back to your Rogers Xfinity Internet connection.

How might network performance vary for my device during periods of high network usage?

During times of high network usage, you might experience changes in your device's connection performance, such as slower data speeds or delays in data-intensive tasks. These adjustments are designed to manage network load and should improve as network conditions stabilize.
